Dog wash - good for the dog?

Maybe you already know them? The dog wash is available in larger cities and some pet shops. We have taken a closer look at them.

 What is a dog wash?

A dog wash is an extremely practical facility for humans. Here he can wash his dog in a half - or completely closed box with a plexiglass wall, without getting his back wet. In the closed boxes, the automatic shower takes over with a shower of soap, followed by a shower and a blow-dry.

So, for relaxed dogs, bathing in such a wash can be stress-free if the lid remains open. Closing the lid and exposing the dog to the water and the (usually very loud) hairdryer in the box is, in our opinion, highly questionable.

In addition, washing in the dog wash including drying can take quite a long time, over half an hour.

How does that feel?

In November 2020, a Sat1 reporter sat down in such a car wash and went through the washing procedure herself. Her conclusion was sobering. The "bath" was unpleasant, as was the subsequent blow-drying.

 Our conclusion:

No matter how and where you bathe your dog, always keep a close eye on him and stop bathing if he is overwhelmed.
