How often should you bathe dogs?

The cosy bath for your dog? Most people love to relax in a warm bathtub. This also happens with dogs, but it is not the rule. So it's not surprising if your dog takes flight when he realises he's about to be bathed.

It is rather rare that a dog has to be bathed. The reason can be skin diseases, unusually strong parasite infestation or dirt that cannot be removed in any other way.

But there is another aspect - and that is unpleasant odour. If your dog has ever rolled around in a field in the midst of freshly sprayed manure or other unmentionable residues of something, then you know what we are talking about. Nah, then we want him to smell good and be clean again as soon as possible. Your dog probably sees it differently. He has rolled in "whatever" because he likes it. With all dog love, we are in the driver's seat and that's why we bathe, and that's perfectly fine. However, there are a few conditions we should absolutely fulfil.

Those would be:

  • Dog shampoo (even baby shampoo is not suitable for dogs).
  • Non-slip mat on the floor
  • Hand-warm temperature
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • Do not force the dog! Remain sensitive to the overstrained dog
